The term value can be a very elusive subject.
The term “value” can be a very elusive subject, which relates primary to the worth of something. Worth can come in several forms such as money, compensation or personal importance. The more worth something has the more value that something is to the whole. Keep in mind that value is a relative term, meaning everybody can/does perceive the worth of something differently. The saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is an example. When discussing how to add value to the community the definition I like to use is: worth, importance, or usefulness of something to somebody. Simply put, how do others in the building community evaluate your worth to the projects you are involved in? Are they excited because they know you will contribute as much as possible to the team or do they cringe because they know they will have to help carry you through the process? More importantly when the community asks themselves “will this person hurt or help us be successful?” hopefully they answer with a big HELP US BE SUCCESSFUL! In general, if everybody involved in the community is trying to make everybody else in the community successful then most likely everybody involved ends up winning. And that is what I call being of value. You need to ask yourself “Are you adding value to your community and aiding in its success?” If you are then fantastic, if not then I would reconsider your business philosophy and learn how to be a more value-driven person.
